Faculty and Staff Accommodations

  1. Affiliation Form. The affiliation form asks you to identify your disability or access issue, what accommodations you may have had in the future, and what accommodations you have in mind to address the issue that you are facing now.
  2. Supporting Documentation. Supporting documentation can be emailed to guirym@tcnj.edu or uploaded to the form. Documentation should include the following:
    1. details about your medical condition/diagnosis;
    2. the treatment plan (if applicable);
    3. impact on your daily work functions, especially if there are any side-effects from medications;
    4. recommended accommodations; and
    5. expected duration.
  3. Meeting with an Accommodations Manager. After your information is reviewed, you will be contacted to ensure we understand what you need; you have an opportunity to ask any further questions, and to settle on an accommodations plan and its implementation. This process will also include the accommodations manager reaching out to your supervisor to discuss how and if your accommodations are reasonable given your job responsibilities.

Grievance Procedure

As part of the interactive process, employees meeting with the Accommodations Manager will discuss their requested accommodations and/or potential alternatives. If an employee is deemed eligible for accommodations but feels they have been denied specific accommodation(s) and/or an alternative accommodation cannot be agreed upon, they have the opportunity to file an appeal.

Additionally, if an employee is deemed ineligible for accommodations, they have the opportunity to file an appeal.

To proceed with the appeal process, the student must complete the following via our Qualtrics form:

  1. Submit a Letter of Appeal: Provide a written statement explaining why they are appealing the decision that is to be uploaded in the Qualtrics form.
  2. Provide Additional Documentation: Submit any new documentation that supports their appeal to the Director of EEO or designee at eeo@tcnj.edu.
  3. Optional Meeting with the Director of ARC or designee: The employee has the option to meet with the Director of EEO or designee via Zoom to discuss the appeal further. Employees may choose not to set up a meeting if they feel their letter of appeal and additional documentation is sufficient for a decision to be made. If the Director of EEO or designee needs further information, they may contact the employee to meet.

Appeals will be reviewed and discussed by the Director of EEO or designee. A decision will be processed within 10 business days of the employee’s appeal submission or their meeting with the Director of EEO or designee, whichever comes later. (If the student chooses not to meet with the Director of EEO or designee, the decision will be processed within 10 business days of the form submission date).
